A circular economy is a sustainable approach to the management of assets and resources. This approach aims to minimize waste and maximize the lifespan of materials; in our case, reusable plastic containers (RPCs), trays, pallets, etc.
The opposite of a circular economy is what’s labelled as a traditional or linear economy which sustains itself through a more take-make-dispose model, extracting more resources and generating more waste.
Circular economies are centred around the ability to create or utilize systems and assets which can be reused, repaired, refurbished and recycled, preserving resources (especially environmental ones) and having fewer items end up in landfills or cluttering usable spaces.
BoxSys’ approach to sustainable supply chain productivity and efficiency can be divided into four stages; Inbound, Assessment, Execution and Delivery.
At the inbound (start) of our circular economic loop, BoxSys’ state-of-the-art facility receives RPCs, bins, pallets, trays and totes from distributors, growers, manufacturers, packers, processors and wholesalers in a variety of industries. The most common include food, beverage, healthcare, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and retail.
From there, our specialized team does a full technical inspection and microbiology test of containers and other assets, determining the degree of cleaning required, the specifics of the items’ contamination (ex. chemicals, dirt, debris, grease) and which cleaning process would be best. These can range from chemical cleaning to pressure washing to steam cleaning.
At BoxSys, our handling of RPCs also includes asset management. This means inclusive tracking, reporting and auditing of your cleaning and sanitization needs to keep processes cost and productivity-efficient as our partnership continues. We’re always looking out for what’s best for your business.
Such tracking and reporting includes cost analysis with savings opportunities, inventory control, weekly asset reports, trailer tracking and more.
After a thorough assessment comes the fun stuff; cleaning, sanitizing and drying.
Keeping assets in adherence to even the most stringent sanitization and safety standards, our automated and manual use of high-pressure hot water, chemical mixes and cleaning technologies ensure macro and micro contaminants (even the ones you can’t see) are properly washed away.
We also determine future frequencies of cleaning, sanitization and maintenance required, which can also involve making recommendations for repair or eventual asset retirement/recycling.
Once RPCs and other items are thoroughly inspected, cleaned, sanitized and reported on, they can be carefully delivered, shipped to retail centres or stored in our large facility, saving you space and property costs.
